Nanterre assistant coach Franck Le Goff quits basketball for football

After 15 seasons assisting Pascal Donnadieu on the Nanterre bench, Franck Le Goff (50) is leaving the world of basketball for that of football as a trainer.

We knew Pascal Donnadieu’s loyal assistant at the start but a priori in the world of basketball. After 15 seasons and 708 professional matches in Nanterre, Franck Le Goff has decided to return to football, the sport of his beginnings, and more precisely to Racing Club France where he had played and then coached for 10 seasons… in basketball.

This time, the former coach of Rueil and Saint-Etienne, among others, will have the task of coordinating and structuring the club’s training pole. These bridges between sports are very rare in the professional world, but the parallels exist.

“I have been coaching young people for 33 years now. I know what it is to convey ideas and values. I will help the club and the coaches on the pedagogy, the psychology, the rigor, the discipline, the work and the routines… I will also be present to support the coaches when they need it.. Regarding the similarities between basketball and football, I would say there is a lot of commonality in team sports. Pascal Donnadieu drew a lot of inspiration from the Nantes-style game: placement, movement, a touch of the ball, sharing the ball, the movement of the players …“, He explained on the club’s website.
