Mercedes pulls plug from Formula E, future De Vries uncertain

The team of the brand new world champion Nyck de Vries, Mercedes-Benz, will withdraw from Formula E after next season. After three years of participation in the electric racing class, the German car manufacturer thinks it has been nice.

Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team, as the team is called in full, has announced that it will pull the plug on the electric racing series at the end of the eighth season. For strategic reasons, the organization said in a statement.

The German car manufacturer aims to operate fully electrically by the end of this decade and to apply those developments in the premier class, Formula 1.

“In the future, we will focus on Formula 1. There we can test our technologies in the most intense competition in the automotive world,” said CEO Markus Schäfer.
