Meeting de Paris: in small form, Renaud Lavillenie stops at 5.30 m

A victory with the applause but a disappointment during the pole vault competition for Renaud Lavillenie. Back in front of his audience at the Charléty stadium, the Frenchman had to settle for a bar at 5.30 m (crossed on his first try) this Saturday during the Meeting de Paris, stage of the Wanda Diamond League. As in Lausanne on Thursday evening, where he took tenth place in the competition with 5.32 m, Renaud Lavillenie is apparently still not sufficiently recovered from his injury contracted during the Tokyo Olympic Games.

“A little out of shape, without decent training for several weeks”, Renaud Lavillenie had nevertheless indicated that he hoped “to be able to jump with the boys”, Friday during a press conference ahead of the Paris Meeting, by evoking the presence of the Swedish Armand Duplantis, Olympic champion at the beginning of August, and American Sam Kendricks.

The competition continues. Valentin Lavillenie and Ethan Cormont are still in contention. Armand Duplantis crossed 5.55m on his first attempt to enter the competition.
