Manchester United will change its name in Football Manager (FM)

Apparently, the English club Manchester United will have to change its name in the famous saga of games FM (Football Manager). All due to an agreement between the studio and the football club.

In case you didn’t know, Manchester United brought Sega and Sports Interactive to court! All due to the misuse of the English club’s name in its saga of simulation games in the world of football.

Manchester United will change its name in Football Manager (FM)

no Football Manager

Therefore, although the development team has never used the official symbol, or even the English team’s equipment, the club’s management believes that their image rights were infringed. How? By using the name, at the same time the symbol is replaced by a simple logo, where we can find just a super simple red logo with a white bar.

More specifically, this is what the club said publicly:

  • Consumers are waiting to see the official logo next to the name ‘Manchester United’… So, as this is not happening, the name is not being used properly, and is therefore tarnishing the club’s good image. ”

So, a year after the original complaint, it appears that everything was settled amicably, out of court. With the development team deciding to go down the same path FIFA had to take when it lost the rights of clubs like Juventus. That is, changing the team name in the game database.

Thus, Manchester United will be known as “Manchester UFC” or “Man U”, as of FM22. Interestingly, although the squad is exactly the same, everything indicates that their names will also be a little different.

This turns out to be quite interesting, because normally, the players and even the club’s technical team tend to be big supporters of the game. By the way, the current coach of “Man U” has even gone public to say that the game helped him a lot in his daily task… That is, being a coach.
