Thanks to Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund just passed the first test of nerves of the Bundesliga season. Against the passionate TSG Hoffenheim, coach Marco Rose’s team won just 3-2 (0-0) at the start of the third matchday on Friday. With the second win of the season, BVB rehabilitated itself for the extremely weak 1: 2 at SC Freiburg from the previous week.

Storm giant Haaland (90 + 1) scored Dortmund’s third goal of the season in a crazy final phase, just a minute earlier, BVB had conceded the 2-2 through Munas Dabbur. With six points, Dortmund moved up to the top of the table for at least one night. Teammate Jude Bellingham said of Haaland after the game: “He’s a machine.”

Two 18-year-olds meet for BVB

Giovanni Reyna (49th) and Bellingham (69th) scored the other BVB goals, Hoffenheim’s Christoph Baumgartner (61st) had scored the interim 1-1. For Hoffenheim and coach Sebastian Hoeneß, who stay at four points, it was the first bankruptcy of the young season.

After the sobering Freiburg game, Rose demanded that “we show our Frankfurt face again against Hoffenheim”. What was meant was the wonderful offensive game of 5: 2 on the first matchday against Eintracht – it only worked to a limited extent at first. Both teams started wildly, TSG almost took the lead.

Kramaric fails because of aluminum

Sebastian Rudy came much too easily to the cross on Andrej Kramaric (3rd), whose header hit the aluminum. In direct return, a BVB counterattack over Erling Haaland and Reyna (4th) ended in the arms of Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. After that, BVB, who competed without Mats Hummels (problems with the patellar tendon), brought a little more calm into the game.

The Rose team kept the TSG busy and showed a clear improvement on the Freiburg game in a playful way. But the guests, for whom the new international David Raum started on the left side of defense, defended the advances well. For a long time, due to the pressure from Dortmund, it was not enough for relief attacks – until Baumgartner (39th) checked BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel completely free. Only a minute later, Dortmund’s Donyell painting failed at Baumann from an acute angle.

Hoffenheim unimpressed

Although the Hoffenheim team came out of the cabin at high speed after half-time, Dortmund stabbed straight away. Reyna found a strong combination over Marco Reus and Bellingham, who executed from 16 meters. However, this hardly impressed Hoffenheim, due to the residue the Kraichgauer kept on running.

After BVB lost the ball in midfield, TSG quickly switched and Kramaric (59th) ran alone to Kobel, who saved in dire need. Minutes later, Baumgartner, whom Dennis Geiger served with his razor-sharp pass, did it himself from an acute angle and gave Kobel no chance. The 1: 1 lasted only eight minutes.
