The Los Angeles Lakers are apparently considering signing Isaiah Thomas to replenish the roster. The 32-year-old last caused a stir when he scored 81 points in a Pro-Am game in Seattle.
As Marc Stein reports, the Lakers are looking for additional support for the backcourt. Thomas is therefore one of the names on the list of champions of 2020. That he actually ends up with the Lakers is not yet a foregone conclusion.
The two-time All-Star is currently playing in the Crawsover Pro-Am League, which is set up every summer by ex-NBA star Jamal Crawford. On Sunday, Thomas exploded for 81 points in a game. “You had already given up on me,” he said afterwards, overwhelmed by his emotions.
Maybe he’ll get another chance in the NBA this summer. Stein had recently reported on the alleged interest of the Boston Celtics in a return campaign. In Boston he even played his way into the MVP discussion in 2016/17, but afterwards he was traded for Kyrie Irving to Cleveland and couldn’t get back on track due to injuries.
In the past three years he has only played a total of 55 games in the Association, in which he played an average of 11.1 points and 3.2 assists at 39.3 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from downtown.
In 2020/21 he tried a ten-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, but was not held long-term after three appearances. He has not played a game in the NBA since then. In 2017/18 he was briefly active for the Lakers.
