In the very hot derby of the South of France between the hosts and Marseille, the tension explodes in the 74th minute when Payet, long targeted with his teammates during the match with throwing objects from the stands, in turn raises a bottle towards the curve of the fans of Nice. At that point all hell breaks loose, with hundreds of ultras invading the field and starting a real manhunt. The players of both teams react and together with the stewards try to counter the invasion of the fans with kicks, punches and violent fights. Sampaoli, Marseille coach, is among the wildest, while there is also one injured among the fans.
Dramatic scenes that force the referee to suspend the match and send the teams back to the locker room. The game, which at that moment was 1-0 for Nice thanks to Dolberg’s goal in the 49th minute, is interrupted and remains suspended for almost an hour and a half, until Marseille decide to leave the stadium and rely on the probable 3-0 win at the table. In the coming days it will be the task of the French sports justice to certify what happened and possibly take this decision, as well as punishing those who have violently tainted the long-awaited return of the fans to the stands.
