“Let’s do everything to make the Paris 2024 Games unique”

MAJOR INTERVIEW – The president of the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a keen observer of the Tokyo Olympics, has moved into another world with the launch of the countdown.

In Tokyo, Tony Estanguet stretched his days to multiply the exchanges, to see everything on the different stages as behind the scenes. The president of the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games recounts the taking of the torch, the prospects and the challenges.

LE FIGARO. – When Paris 2024 picked up the Olympic flag, how did you feel?

Tony ESTANGUET. – Emotion. And a form of apprehension in the face of pressure, very strong. There is pride in seeing the Games return to Europe, France, and Paris. We have been working for so long so that the French are proud to see their country on the front of the stage, welcoming the world. There are parallels with what I have experienced as an athlete: the closer the goal approaches, the more stress increases. It’s a moment of change. It’s our turn. It releases a mixture of pride, enthusiasm, optimism, adrenaline, envy, emotion. And, at the same time, of responsibility because we are the custodians:
