Lars Windhorst: Hertha BSC confirms receipt of the last installment from the investor

Lars Windhorst wants to develop Hertha BSC into an international brand. Now the Bundesliga club has confirmed receipt of the last outstanding payment from the investor who joined Hertha in 2019.

The Berliners announced that they had received the amount of 30 million euros from the investment agreement with Windhorst’s company Tennor. This means that all agreements have been fulfilled and the equity financing has ended.

“Particularly in the difficult time of the pandemic, Tennor’s equity contributions ensure room for maneuver for Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA and our professional team,” said Carsten Schmidt, Managing Director of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA.

Windhorst: “I keep my word”

Since 2019, Windhorst has paid the contractually agreed around 375 million euros to the capital city club. In the past few months there had been repeated reports of problems with payment processing by Windhorst’s Tennor Group. These were rejected by both the investor and Hertha BSC, but intermittent communication problems in the cooperation were admitted.

“I’ve invested 375 million euros in the club since 2019,” Windhorst announced on Friday. And: “I keep my word – and will continue to stand by the Herthaners in the future.”

Hertha can possibly use the money well. Sports director Fredi Bobic had admittedly rejected the scope for possible transfers. However, the club has so far been able to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng, Suat Serdar, Stevan Jovetic and Marco Richter.

Windhorst holds 66.6 percent of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA through its investment. In the long term, the 44-year-old would like to use his financial resources to lead the club into the Champions League and, preferably, to establish it as an international brand. The term “Big City Club” he coined had also led to discussions within the association.
