Josip Stanisic has chosen Croatia

Josip Stanisic is one of the winners under Bayern’s new coach Julian Nagelsmann. Although the defensive all-rounder was already running for the German U19, the young professional decided to change associations. At least for now.

Josip Stanisic is part of the Croatian U21 national team for the first time. The FC Bayern right-back was called up for the Croatian games against Azerbaijan and Finland in early September. In a message from the Croatian Football Association, Stanisic is quoted as saying: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the Croatian U21 national team. I am honored to be able to wear the Croatian shirt.”

The 21-year-old appeared twice for Germany’s U19 team in November 2018. Now he decided to move to the Croatian Association, but it doesn’t have to be permanent. Even if he is used for Croatia’s U21s, he could later play for the German senior national team.

In addition to Stanisic, Dortmund’s young talent Marco Pasalic, who was born in Karlsruhe, was nominated.

Kuntz was also watching Stanisic

Croatia’s association president Marijan Kustić said of the vocation of the German-born players: “We are aware of the potential of our diaspora (…), these players show with their decision to play for Croatia how much our families love abroad for the Croatian national team. “

Stanisic was born in Munich and joined the record champions’ offspring in 2017. He is one of the winners of the season opener at FCB. He benefited from the injury to Bayern’s regular right-back Benjamin Pavard and has played in all three of Munich’s previous competitive games, in two of them from the start. The German U21 coach Stefan Kuntz had also observed him at Bayern’s season opening game in Mönchengladbach.
