Jon Rahm says goodbye to his options in the BMW Championship

The American Bryson DeChambeau continues to dominate the BMW Championship after the third day by delivering a signed card of 67 (-5) with a cumulative of 195 (-21), the same achieved by his compatriot Patrick Cantlay, who had a record of 66 (-6) and shares the lead.

Baltimore drew a huge crowd for its first PGA Tour stop in nearly 60 years, and DeChambeau delivered a great deal of entertainment.

DeChambeau had back-to-back eagles with sheer strength and remarkable putter touch and then hit back-to-back holes with shots into the water that cost him a lead of at least four more.

“It was definitely colorful,” DeChambeau said. Had to settle for sharing leadership with Cantlaywhose classic style and unwavering patience in the wake of DeChambeau’s wild career worked equally well.

So crazy was this action that DeChambeau went from a one-shot deficit to a three-shot advantage in the span of two holes with his long eagle putts.

Only for Cantlay to go from a four-shot deficit to a two-hole one-shot lead in the final nine with his birdies and DeChambeau’s errors, who leveled off in the final three holes to save the day.

South Korean Sungjae Im birdied his last two holes for a 66 (-6) and was three strokes behind the leaders behind with a cumulative record of 198 (-18).

Four strokes (-17) are Sergio García (67, -5), Mexican Abraham Ancer (66, -6), Northern Irish Rory McIlroy (65, -7) and American Sam Burns (65, -7).

Jon Rahm, world number one, could not keep up with DeChambeau and Cantlay to drop to eighth with a record of 70 (-2) for a cumulative of 200 (-16).

Rahm didn’t have his best touch with the clubs for long shots and putts. and there the options of staying in the fight for the leadership ended.

Rahm was doing his best to keep up, three shots behind, when he missed the 13th green to the left by bogey, he missed the fairway to the right on the 14th for another bogey and had to settle for par on the par 5 on the 16th. He closed with a bogey from the fairway bunker.
