Jokowi Hands Over IDR 5.5 Billion Bonus to Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo handed over a bonus to Indonesian women’s doubles gold medalist in badminton at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu.

Greysia and Apriyani each received Rp 5.5 billion.

“So for the gold medal winners (the bonus given) is Rp. 5.5 billion,” said Jokowi when receiving the Tokyo 2020 Olympic athletes at the Bogor Palace, West Java, Friday (13/8/2021).

In particular, Jokowi thanked the achievements of Greysia and Apriyani in the international arena.

Jokowi said that Greysia and Apriyani had succeeded in continuing the tradition of Indonesia’s gold medal at the Olympics from badminton.

“Once again congratulations to the champions, the gold medals won by the women’s doubles Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu,” he said.

In addition to Greysia and Apriyani, bonuses were also given to other athletes. The money worth Rp 2.5 billion was given to Eko Yuli Irawan, a silver medal winner in the 61 kilogram class weightlifting sport.

Meanwhile, the three bronze medal winners received a bonus of Rp 1.5 billion.

The three are Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from the men’s singles badminton, Windy Cantika Aisah from the women’s weightlifting branch in the 41 kilogram class, and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah from the men’s weightlifting class 73 kilogram.

“Bonuses are also given to coaches, then non-medal-winning athletes are also given. It’s quite big, but I don’t need to mention it,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi hopes that the achievements of the athletes can be an example as well as encouragement and motivation for other athletes and the community.

“All of us must continue to work hard, continue to excel, and give the best for the nation and state,” said the President.

To note, Greysia/Apriyani managed to win over Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan (China) in the badminton final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Monday (2/8/2021).

Competing on Field 1 Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Greysia/Apriyani won two straight games with a score of 21-19, 21-15 in 55 minutes.

Greysia/Apriyani became the first Indonesian women’s doubles to win an Olympic gold medal.
