Jannik Sinner breaks Zverev’s record and makes history for Italy

WASHINGTON.

The Italian Jannik Sinner, of 19 years, won the tournament ATP de Washington by beating the American in the final Mackenzie McDonald with partials of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.

Sinner, the top-ranked under-twenty in the ATP, captured the third title of his career at the end of Citi Open.

Number 24 of the world, Sinner I had already won in Sofia last year and in Melbourne in January, and for his victory he took the prize of $ 350,755.

The Italian became the youngest ATP 500 level champion in 146 tournaments since the category was created in 2009, breaking the mark that Alexander Zverev, 20, who established in Washington in 2017.

Eight days before turning 20, Sinner too became the third youngest champion in Washington after Andy Roddick at 18 in 2001, and the Argentine Juan Martin del Potro with 19 years in 2008.
