Jameis Winston will be the Saints quarterback at the start of the season

In a continuation of what we have seen so far from the preseason of the New Orleans Saints, Jameis Winston will take the starting position of quarterback after prevailing in the competition to Taysom Hill.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Winston will be the one who takes the first offensive of the Saints on September 12 when they open season in the Caesars Superdome facing the Green Bay Packers. It will be the Saints’ first game as a starter for Winston, who came to the organization last year.

Era post Brees

The post-Drew Brees era will reload on Winston, a former first draft pick taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015.

Winston raced over Hill on Monday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he got 123 yards on nine passes of 10 attempts he made. He showed balance in the protection bag and maintained the feeling of being a danger if he wanted to run.

With Winston taking the balls under the center, the Saints will have the added benefit of having Hill as a multi-edged weapon within the offense as was the case when Brees was quarterback, captain and soul of New Orleans.

The Saints close out their preseason games this Saturday night against the Cardinals.
