As reported, in the very strong competition of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the lightweight Aigars Apinis threw the disc 19.54 meters away.
As one of the world’s top athletes, Aigars Apinis caused serious competition and excitement for athletes from other countries. The athlete himself admits that the competition in his discipline is increasing every year, and there are more and more athletes who throw more than 19 meters.
Aigars is a four-time Paralympic Champion and the most awarded athlete in Latvia. His paralympic record in discus is 21 meters, which he achieved at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Aigars Apinis won a gold medal in discus throw, at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London – a gold medal in ball throwing and a silver medal in discus throw. In 2008, in Beijing, he won a gold medal in discus throw and a silver medal in ball throwing. At the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, he won a gold medal in discus throw, and in 2000 at the Sydney Paralympic Games, a bonsai medal in shot put and a bronze medal in discus throw.
The Paralympic Games in Tokyo run from August 24 to September 5. Until now, they have been rich in events and adventures for Latvia. Rihards Snikus with the award-winning horse King of the Dance won a silver medal in the parade. In turn, Latvian swimmer Jurijs Semojonvs won a place in the final in the 100m swimming in the S8 class, and won 8th place there. But the young athlete Baiba Rorbach set a personal record in the hockey competition.
