Sweden’s goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist has declared his ice hockey career over. The 39-year-old, who was one of the best goalies in the world wearing the New York Rangers jersey for a decade and a half, had to undergo a heart operation in January and was recently working towards a comeback.
“It’s about time,” Lundqvist wrote on Twitter: “For the past 30 years I’ve dedicated my life to ice hockey. Now the time has come to turn my back on the game I love and start a new chapter. “
