Guatemala participates in the meeting of the Regional Consultation Group on Migration in Mexico – Radio TGW

TGW Digital – A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated on behalf of Guatemala in the Meeting of the Regional Group of Consultations on Migration (GRCM), on July 29 and 30 in the city of Puebla de Zaragoza, Mexico, in hybrid format; the conclusions and recommendations will be presented at the Meeting of Vice Ministers of the Regional Conference on Migration next November.

During the meeting, the actions carried out from January to July 2021 were evaluated based on the Strategic Plan of the Regional Conference on Migration (CRM); identify the aspects that make it difficult to achieve, implement and follow up; promote a space for political and technical dialogue on migration matters to share information, experiences and good practices of the Member Countries.

The representatives of the Member Countries also approved the reports of the Protection Working Groups; Irregular and massive migration; Labor migration; Border management, and the definition and coordination of activities for the coming months.

The Guatemalan delegation was led by Ambassador Arabella Woolfolk, General Director of Consular and Migratory Affairs, who had an active participation on behalf of Guatemala, in her capacity as Pro-Tempore presidency of the Comprehensive Regional Framework for Protection and Solutions (MIRPS).

In addition, he urged to promote rapprochement and joint actions between the RCM and MIRPS, such as the most representative multilateral forums on migration and refugee matters in the region, in order to seek durable and sustainable solutions in favor of people affected by human mobility. with protection needs.

Some of the outstanding topics on the broad agenda of this meeting were: The status of migratory flows in the region, presentation of the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, status of the update on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration; extraregional migration and assisted returns.

During the dialogue and reflection on the issues, there was participation of the Member Countries, as well as the Observer Organizations and the Regional Network of Civil Organizations for Migration. The MCA is made up of Canada, the United States, Mexico (PPT 2021), Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic, being a regional forum specialized in migration matters. In addition, the Governor of the State of Puebla, Luis Miguel Gerónimo Barbosa, participated.
