Guadabasket receives 25,000 euros from the City Council to promote the practice of basketball and women’s sports

GUADALAJARA, Aug 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The mayor, Alberto Rojo, has signed a collaboration agreement with the president of the Guadabasket club, Luis Miranda, valued at 25,000 euros, by which the club undertakes to promote the practice of basketball and sport in general in the city.

The agreement pursues three fundamental objectives: the promotion of grassroots sports; the enhancement of women’s sports and inclusive sports, and that the practice of basketball and sports in general is accessible and reaches all corners of the city, the City Council reported in a press release.

“Today is an important day for basketball in the city because we signed a historic agreement with the Guadabasket club, an agreement with which we want basketball to regain its space and prominence in the city,” said the mayor.

An agreement, in the words of Rojo, with which three objectives are pursued: “to promote grassroots sports; promote women’s sports and inclusive sports, and promote sports activity in the city in general and basketball in particular”.

Actions, said the mayor, that for the municipal government “are the essence of the sport we want for Guadalajara. Sport made in the city, with clubs in the city and for our neighbors to enjoy.”

The mayor has recalled that in recent months activities that mark this path have already been seen, such as the 3×3 basketball that throughout the day brought more than 150 girls and boys to the Plaza de Santo Domingo; the Gigantes Campus, with more than fifty schoolchildren and; last weekend, the International Tournament that has faced the U19 women’s teams from Spain and the United States, at the Multipurpose Palace.

Likewise, the Councilor for Sports, Evaristo Olcina, who has attended the signing, has valued the subsidy lines that are currently underway aimed at clubs and athletes in the city, as well as the next nominative agreements such as the signed with Guadabasket, which will continue to be signed with other clubs in the city.

For his part, Luis Miranda thanked the City Council for the support that the club is receiving and that “culminates in the signing of this agreement, which is fundamental for us due to the significant economic amount it entails, and which will allow us to close a season and look to the future “, he highlighted.

A future that passes through the “commitment acquired with the City Council to carry out different activities in the city, and the launch of a female team in the national category, a project in which we are working and hopefully we can announce it shortly”, has noted Miranda.

Guadabasket currently competes in the Spanish amateur basketball league EBA. Usually, it has 16 competition teams in the categories from juvenile to junior, both female and male, and six more teams in schools.
