Jil Teichmann has a great success at the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, after having left the court only three times as the winner in nine previous tournaments.

The Swiss defeated Sorana Cirstea from Romania, who was rated more strongly by the bookmakers, 6: 2, 6: 0.

The Zeeland woman pulled through from the score of 2: 2 and won ten games in a row – possibly the Romanian was no longer in full possession of her powers. The mixed Olympic champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, seeded as number 16, should be the next opponent of the world number 65, provided that the top 20 player from Russia prevails against the wildcard recipient Bernarda Pera from the USA.
