In a day in which Mexico aspired to add two more medals in two key sports, Germany was the ogre. Archery and diving were the safe bets for Mexico this Sunday morning. The German team of Michelle Kroppen, Charlie Schwarz and Lisa Unruh won 6-2 against the Mexicans who were inspired by the bronze medal won by Alejandra Valencia and Luis Álvarez. The Europeans knew better how to handle the headwind to get the favorites Aída Román, Ana Paula Vázquez and Valencia out of the way.

Mexico still has expectations in goalkeepers. Individual tests still remain. Luis Álvarez will compete against the Japanese Furukawa (Tuesday, July 27, 22:06 CET). Valencia will do it against the Belarusian Kazlouskaya (Wednesday July 28, 9:30 pm); Román will do it this Sunday (22.45) against the Tunisian El Walid and Vázquez against the Brazilian Ane dos Santos (Thursday, 4.00).

Carolina Mendoza and Lolita Hernández, the Mexican couple on the three-meter springboard, finished fourth in the synchronized test from the three-meter springboard. The final grade was 275.10 points. The Mexicans had a bad time with some mistakes and the harshness of the judges. After five rounds, the Mexicans struggled to break out of the bottom of the rankings and climbed to fourth place, ahead of Japan, Great Britain, Italy and the United States. Gold was for the Chinese (326.40 points), silver for the Canadians (300.78) and bronze for the Germans (284.97).

Carolina Mendoza (State of Mexico, 24 years old) had a sudden jump to the Olympic Games. In London 2012 he earned his place at just 15 years old. At that age he still couldn’t assimilate the moment and he had a bad time finishing in 21st place. “There are always nerves and that’s what happened to me, but Rio de Janeiro is coming and I know I have a lot to work on,” he said in those years. . But he did not have to be in the 2016 Games. His sights were set on Tokyo. All his way he dabbled in the reality show Exatlón, where a series of athletes compete in extreme conditions. He didn’t win, but his name resonated. Mendoza sought to make a place in a test dominated by multi-medalist Paola Espinosa. In 2019 he had all the brands to compete in the Pan American Games or the World Cups. Sports authorities gave the place to Espinosa.

After the bitter episode, he wanted his second Games. All the Mexican divers underwent a technical control, carried out by the authorities, in which they would decide the tickets for Tokyo 2020. Mendoza doubles with Dolores Hernández (Veracruz, 24 years old). Their main competitors were Paola Espinosa and Melany Hernández, winners of a bronze at the Gwangju World Cup in 2019. Mendoza and Hernández triumphed. Espinosa protested by assuring that there was no sports justice, however, despite winning a medal in a world championship, the only thing they win is a place for the country that, not necessarily, is whoever wins it but must still submit to control country technician.

Espinosa detracted from Lolita Hernández and Carolina Mendoza. “Today was my turn in Tokyo 2020, there was no medal for Mexico, I regret that they did not let us fight for the podium with Melany Hernández,” the veteran wrote. In the selective the pair Espinosa and Hernández finished in last place.

Diving is the sport par excellence in Mexico. In their entire history, divers have won 14 medals. The competitions of the feminine, masculine and synchronized masculine singles still remain. The hope of finding more medals in the pit is still latent.
