Football competitions aren’t going to resume anytime soon

A long working session took place Sunday, August 22, 2021 by videoconference between the members of the Martinique football league council. At the center of the debates, the health situation and sports practice in the territory.

The Martinique Cup or the Yvon Lutbert Trophy, usually organized in early August, mark the start of the new season’s competitions. But due to an unprecedented health crisis for several weeks in Martinique, this season will be severely disrupted.

The members of the football league council meeting on Sunday (August 22, 2021) by videoconference, have taken the decision to postpone all competitions.

“Protect the social situation of our employees

The members also requested a meeting with the authorities (CTM, prefecture) to prepare for the recovery when it will be possible. A consultation that they wish with the representatives of the other sports disciplines practiced on the island.

No date for the resumption of football has been put forward for the moment. And with this delay, the participation of local teams in the Coupe de France could be compromised.

In addition, the leaders of Martinican football draw attention to the fact that “the league is an employing company association and that everything will be done to protect the social situation of our employees“, underline Samuel Pereau, president of the league and Jean Varru, the general secretary.
