Femke Bol effortlessly qualifies for the final 400 meters hurdles | Sport

The American world record holder Sydney McLaughlin was the fastest in the pouring rain with a time of 53.03. The battle for the medals in this part is Wednesday. “I usually train indoors when it rains, but it went pretty well today. It was a bit more exciting when pushing off, because the bottom of your spikes will be a bit smoother. Well, I’m Dutch and I have to be able to handle it,” said Bol after the race with a big smile.

With big steps to world top

Bol has stormed the world top with great strides. De Amersfoortse broke through in the 400 meter hurdles last year and won all races where she started. She is still undefeated this year. This spring, she triumphed indoors in all 400-meter competitions she ran and topped that series of success with the European title in Torun in 50.63. In the 400 hurdles she improved her Dutch record to 52.37, the second best time of this year in the world.

“It really went better than the day before yesterday, then I felt a bit more acidification. Now I have to go crazy for the first part in the final on Wednesday and then do what I always do, especially stay calm in my head. It is and continues to be a hurdle, everyone has to come out well. It is primarily a race of myself against the hurdles. But I’m ready for the final. It goes bizarrely fast and sometimes I should pay more attention to what I’m doing. I am now in my first Olympic final and I barely realize it. I’m more curious about the track layout and I finally get to compete against McLaughlin, the fastest in the world. I think it’s super cool.”

Bol also caused confusion during her first Olympic participation. After the series of the 400 meters hurdles, she stated that she would not start in the final of the 4×400 meters mixed and that she would fully focus on the 400 hurdles, but she was lined up anyway. As the third runner, she led the Dutch team with a split time of 49.74, but final runner Ramsey Angela was just unable to help the Dutch foursome to a medal in the new Olympic part.

“I wouldn’t do that if I wasn’t fit enough. But I’m so fit and I don’t know if I ever will be. I want to experience everything now. Of course it would have been even better if we had taken bronze.”
