Esther Guerrero has stayed out of the 1,500-meter final at the Tokyo Olympics. Banyolina set a time of 4.07.08 in the second series, insufficient to reach the final. The other Spaniard who competed, from Soria Marta Perez yes he has managed to enter the Olympic semifinals thanks to his time of 4.04.76 -personal record- which has given him one of the six places in the playoffs.

Esther Guerrero has been a member of the international elite for a couple of years, regularly participating in the best rallies in the world, but her only Olympic experience had been in Rio 2016 and in 800 meters, his original test, in which he has been eight times champion of Spain (half outdoors).

Esther has competed in the second series, alongside the big favorite, the Dutch Sifan Hassan, and with a starting mark (4.02.41) that placed her fifth among fifteen. In the semifinals they passed the first six and six more on time.

Pérez, making his debut in the Games despite winning two World Cups, was the first on the track, at 9.35 in the morning in harsh conditions for the middle depths: 30 degrees of temperature and 66 percent humidity in the Olympic stadium .

Her theoretical chances were much lower than Guerrero’s because her starting mark (4.06.96 this year) put her behind ten rivals and she doesn’t have a spectacular sprint.

The Soria has settled in the center of the group, which pulled the Canadian Gabriela Debues-Stafford, in the end winner with 4.03.70 ahead of one of the favorites, the British Laura Muir (4.03.89).

Marta has raced the last 400, has had some stumbling blocks in the penultimate corner and, advancing inside on the straight, has come seventh with 4.04.76, a personal record, and pending the second leg in time, which finally has awarded a place in the semifinals.

Only two other Spaniards, Mayte Zúñiga (4.00.59 in Barcelona 1992) and Natalia Rodríguez (4.03.01 in Athens 2004), have run more than Marta in an Olympic Games.
