Eliud Kipchoge, Best Marathon Runner in History

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Eliud Kipchoge proves that he can defend his gold medal in the marathon at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Two Olympic golds plus the world record he currently holds makes him the best marathon runner in history.

Kipchoge was already trying to break away from the big crowd as the marathon still had 30km to go. He then became the first runner to cross the finish line with a record of 2 hours 8 minutes 38 seconds.

Kipchoge took a 1 minute 20 second lead over Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands who finished second.

“I wanted to create distance and show the world that this was a beautiful race,” Kipchoge said.

Kipchoge became a marathon runner who was able to win two golds while maintaining marathon gold at the Olympics. The previous two runners were Abebe Bikila from Ethiopia and Waldemar Cierpinski from East Germany.

“I’ve made my great history by winning the marathon for the second time in a row. I hope this helps inspire the next generation,” said Kipchoge.

Kipchoge is a marathon world record holder with a time of 2 hours 1 minute 39 seconds. Not only that, he was the only runner who could conquer the marathon in under two hours even though the record was not included in the official record because it was not done in an open championship.

The series of records was more complete with the second Olympic gold he got in Tokyo.

“Today I was able to fulfill my Olympic dream. I’ve always said that sport is like life, you can win and lose.”

“But today is the day I managed to win and can say I was able to defend my Olympic medal,” Kipchoge said.
