‘Disappointed and angry’ Manasi Joshi says she will not compete in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Indian para-badminton star Manasi Joshi took to social media to announce that she would not be competing in the next Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2020 for “multiple reasons currently beyond my comprehension”.

She posted a video message, adding that she would “come back stronger.”

“I would like to let you know that I will not be competing at this year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo. It’s sad. I am disappointed and angry. I don’t know what to do at the moment but I will come back stronger. The year 2020 has been a year in which I have learned a lot. I am sorry that I was unable to participate in this year’s Paralympic Games. I wish all Indian athletes and everyone who participates in them the best. , she said in the video.

Manasi, who became a household name when she won the 2019 World Championships in Basel, beating compatriot and world No.1 Parul Parmar in the SL3 women’s singles final.

In fact, she won gold in the women’s singles category of the 2019 BWF Para World Championships as well as silver and bronze medals in the same tournament. She has also won bronze medals at the Asian Championships, Para-Asian Games and International Championships.

Para-badminton is making its Paralympic Games debut in Tokyo 2020, with matches played in 14 categories. But Manasi’s category is not part of the Paralympic Games this time around.

India has seven participants in para-badminton competitions at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, along with Pramod Bhagat, Parul Parmar and Palak Kohli.
