The Yuri Alvear Combat Coliseum received an official visit from the judo technical verification committee of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021, which will have the municipality of Jamundí as one of its official sub-sites.
This stage, built in an area of 6,500 square meters and with a capacity for 500 spectators, will be officially inaugurated at the Pan-American event, which will take place from November 25 to December 5 of this year.
Judo and karate competitions will be held there, bringing together 112 and 80 young athletes, respectively.
Amadeus Dias de Moura Junior, the sports director of the Pan American Judo Confederation, stated after the visit that he felt pleasantly “surprised” by the stage.
“I’m very happy. I saw everything very well organized and that will make our work much easier. I am surprised because it is a new and very good scenario, which has the name of a great champion such as Yuri Alvear ”, he expressed.
It should be noted that the Coliseum was baptized as Yuri Alvear in honor of the renowned Jamundeña judoka, who has two Olympic medals (bronze in London 2012 and silver in Rio 2016), three world championships (2009, 2013 and 2014) and four medals (two silver and two bronze) at Pan American Games.
For her part, Marcela Ramón, sports director of the Games, described the visit of the DTIs as very positive.
“The tour in Jamundí went very well for us. The DTIs were very happy with the scenario because it meets the technical conditions according to the operational plan that was presented to them ”, he said.
The sports director added: “The organization was made according to the suggestions they had made regarding how the training and competition space will be, and it went quite well for us. It was a very positive balance ”.
The Coliseum, then, is practically ready to host the best matches of the I Junior Pan American Games.
