Chaos & tumult in France: fans storm the pitch after throwing bottles – football

Incredible pictures from France!

The game between Nice and Olympique Marseille in the French Ligue 1 was interrupted on Sunday evening after Nice fans stormed the pitch.

What happened? During the game, fans of the hosts kept throwing objects onto the field and towards the opposing players. In the 75th minute, Dimitri Payet (34) wanted to take a corner kick in front of the corner of the home fans.

On the way there, the Frenchman was apparently hit by a water bottle that came flying out of the block and fell to the ground. Payet jumped up again, picked up the wrong one and fired her back towards the stands. As reported by the broadcaster CNews, other teammates joined him.

The situation then escalated completely. Some angry supporters of Nice stormed over the barrier onto the lawn, wanted to attack the Marseille players. Stewards and Nice pros were unable to stop the angry fans.

Referee Benoit Bastien then interrupted the match in the Allianz Riviera Stadium when the score was 1-0 for Nice and sent the teams into the dressing room. Nice’s President Jean-Pierre Rivere tried to calm the supporters on the lawn.

After just under an hour, the Nice team around ex-Bayern professional Dante came back on the pitch, but the Marseille players were apparently not ready to continue playing. Some were injured in the scramble.
