Camilo Villegas was left out of the FedEx Cup playoffs – Other Sports – Sports

American Kevin Kisner, winless in five previous playoffs in the PGA Tour, he birdied the second extra hole Sunday to win a six-player playoff and win the Wyndham Championship title in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Kisner posted his fourth career PGA win and his first since the 2019 World Match Play World Cup. “It’s a crazy way to break the playoff winless streak, but it was an incredible week,” Kisner said.

For his part, the Colombian Camilo Villegas lost the option to get the full card for the next season and to enter the playoffs of the FedEx Cup. He finished in box 46 of the tournament, with 273 strokes (-7), eight behind the winner.

After the Wyndham Championship, the last tournament of the season, Villegas finished in box 129 of the FedEx Cup, with 402 points. The top 125 will be in the last tournaments of the session.

Villegas now has two options: the first, to go to the finals of the Korn Ferry Tour, a possibility that is open to all players who finished between the 126 and 200 boxes of the FedEx. There will be three tournaments; the first one, starting Thursday, the Albertson Boise Open. There you will have the option to get one of the 25 cards for the PGA Tour.

The other option that the Antioqueño has is to stay in the same condition in which the season ended, that is, accessing the tournaments that he can play through invitations. It should be remembered that, due to the medical exemption he had for the injury to one of his shoulders, Villegas could only play 13 tournaments. Finally he participated in 26, with 15 cuts passed and two Top-10.

The one who did make the FedEx Cup playoffs is Juan Sebastián Muñoz, that it will look to get back to a spot in the top ten, as it did last year. Today he occupies box 65, which gives him access, for now, to the first two tournaments: the Northern Trust Open, starting on Thursday, and the BMW Championship, next week. You must enter the top 30 to play the Tour Championship.
