Cameroon-Burkina Faso in opening, Algeria and Ivory Coast in the same pool

The draw for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (postponed to 2022) took place this Tuesday, August 17, at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The host country will face Burkina Faso in the opener on January 9. The title holder Algeria will have to challenge Côte d’Ivoire.

The 24 qualified selections are fixed. They know their opponents for CAN 2021 (postponed to 2022), as well as the full schedule.

On the program, some beautiful posters such as Côte d’Ivoire-Algeria, Morocco-Ghana and Nigeria-Egypt.

GROUP A : Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde.

GROUP B : Senegal, Zimbabwe, Guinea, Malawi.

GROUP C : Morocco, Ghana, Comoros, Gabon.

GROUP D : Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau.

GROUP E : Algeria, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast.

GROUP F : Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania, Gambia.

To proceed with this draw, the 24 selections were divided into four pots according to the latest FIFA ranking, established on August 12. Thus, the host country Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria could not appear in the same pool.

It is the stars of African football, Cameroonians Samuel Eto’o and Gaëlle Eneganamouit, Ivorian Didier Drogba, Algerian Rabah Madjer and Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan who made this draw.

The competition will take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in four cities of Cameroon: Yaoundé, Douala, Garoua, Limbé, Bafoussam. The opening match will pit Cameroon against Burkina Faso at the Stade d’Olembé in Yaoundé.
