Botteghin finds shelter in Italy after a transfer-free departure from Feyenoord

Eric Botteghin continues his career at Ascoli. The 33-year-old defender signed a contract with the Italian club until mid-2023 on Tuesday.

Botteghin has been transfer-free since this summer after his contract with Feyenoord ended. The Brazilian was a player of the Rotterdam team between 2015 and 2021, with which he became national champion, among other things. Botteghin has previously flirted with a return to his native country, where he has never played a top-level match. “I am Brazilian, I have my base there. Of course I want to experience what it is like to play in Brazil. That is the country where my family and friends are,” he said earlier.

Nevertheless, the stopper has not opted for the step to the South American country. Botteghin will instead be admired in Serie B. Ascoli narrowly managed to hold their own in Italy’s second tier through the play-offs to win relegation.
