Bordeaux: Petkovic talks about his method

A new era began this summer at the Girondins de Bordeaux following the acquisition of the club by Gérard Lopez and the arrival of new coach Vladimir Petkovic. The former Switzerland coach, who eliminated France in the round of 16 of the Euro this summer, arrives in Gironde with his style and his ideas. But he intends to go there step by step to allow his new team to adapt little by little to his philosophy.

“For me, what matters is not the system but the interpretation you make of it, the principles of the game, ensuring that all the players are together to develop the same football. My current interest is is not to make a mess. With Switzerland, I learned that it was useless to go beyond four, five main points. It is when the team begins to assimilate them, that it feels more and more sure of herself and that she takes pleasure in putting them into practice that something is going on. Today, the priority is to work on the heads of the players by transmitting them principles of the game and the desire to take risks “, explains the Bordeaux coach in the columns of L’Equipe.

Bordeaux’s first official match against Clermont, Sunday (3 p.m.) in Ligue 1, will allow Petkovic to know where his team really is.
