Chester

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been arrested by British police for rape. One of the complainants is under 18 years of age.

It was reported by British media such as Sky Sports and Daily Mail, Mendy underwent a trial in Chester court on Friday (27/8/2021) local time. He arrived in a van from the prison escorted by a police patrol.

Mendy came wearing a red hoodie and black jogging pants. During the trial, the 27-year-old did not say anything except when confirming his name, address and date of birth. He didn’t make any requests either.

Mendy was charged with 4 cases of rape and one case of sexual assault. Three cases of rape occurred in October 2020, then one case of sexual violence occurred in January 2021, and one case of rape occurred this month.

All the allegations were reported by three people, one of whom was still under 18 years old. Not only that, Mendy was also charged with violating the terms of his bail this month.

Mendy is still playing with Man City this season. He appeared in the Premier League’s inaugural week against Tottenham Hotspur, last Sunday (15/8). However, following this case, The Citizens have now given him an indefinite suspension.

The police reminded that this case is still ongoing, and Mendy deserves fair treatment, until he is found guilty. Even so, his social media accounts have been buzzing with netizens.

Mendy joined Man City in 2017 from AS Monaco. For 4 years, he suffered many injuries, and until now he has only appeared in 75 games under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage.

Mendy managed to help Man City win a number of titles, including three Premier League titles. With the French national team, he was part of the team that won the 2018 World Cup.
