Novak Djokovic passes his turn for the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati to refine his preparation to complete the Grand Slam.

The Serbian said in a social media post that he needed a little more time to recover after appearing at the Tokyo Olympics. The world number one was also deprived of a bronze medal when he suffered the defeat in front of the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.

Djokovic has won the Cincinnati tournament on two occasions, including the 2020 edition which was held in New York due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Djokovic is trying to win his fourth Grand Slam title of the season at Flushing Meadows after triumphing in Australia, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. He joined Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 major titles to his name.

The United States Open will kick off on August 30.
