Athletics: Frenchman Sasha Zhoya, new junior world record holder in the 110m hurdles

He was expected and did not disappoint! On the occasion of the semi-finals of the World Junior Athletics Championships, organized this week in Nairobi, Kenya, Sasha Zhoya seized the under-20 world record in the 110m hurdles, finishing her race in 12 ″ 93.

The Franco-Australian literally crushed the competition to cross the finish line in 12 ″ 93, despite a slightly unfavorable wind (-0.4 m / s). During the European Junior Championships, organized at the end of July, he had already broken the 13 seconds mark but his record could not be approved due to the wind this time too favorable. Before him, the world record was jointly held by another Frenchman, Wilhem Belocian, and Jamaican Damion Thomas (12 ″ 99).

Final scheduled for Saturday

The member of Clermont Athlétisme Auvergne did not yet have a perfect race, since he hits three hurdles in the second part of the race. He will have the opportunity to lower his new benchmark mark during the final of these Junior World Championships, this Saturday at 3:15 p.m. French time. The title seems promised to him. He will be accompanied by another Frenchman, Erwann Cina, who took third place in his semi-final in 13 ″ 51, a new personal best.
