The past few weeks have been more than erratic at Astana. At the end of June, the news suddenly came that Vinokoerov, who as a rider was still involved in the cradle of Astana, was rid of the team manager. He would get a different role.
At the beginning of this month, the news came that the Canadian company Premier Tech is dropping out as a co-sponsor and this morning there was the reintegration of Vinokurov.
The 2012 Olympic champion, who traded the rider’s outfit for the manager role a year later, will take responsibility for the recruitment of riders and staff and sporting operations for the 2022 season. The team’s Kazakh sponsor base remains the team owner and title sponsor.
In the coming days and weeks, the team will work on contract extensions and newcomers.
