Anthony Zambrano gave Colombia the 33rd medal in history

Anthony Zambrano achieved a silver medal in the 400-meter sprint of athletics at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This was the 33rd medal in the history of Colombia in jousts.

Colombia’s first participation in the Olympic Games was in Los Angeles in 1932 with the athlete Jorge Perry, who was the only representative of the country in the jousts.

Colombia had to wait until the 1972 Munich Olympics to win its first medals. He did it in a triple game with Helmut Bellingrodt (sports shooting-moving target 10 meters) and boxers Alfonso Pérez (57-60 kg) and Clemente Rojas (54-57 kg).

Twelve years later, in Los Angeles 1984, Helmut Bellingrodt repeated his silver medal in the 10-meter moving target-sport shooting.

For the 1988 Seoul Olympics, it was boxer Jorge Julio Rocha (51-54 kg) who was present for Colombia with a bronze medal.

Ximena Restrepo, in Barcelona 1992, added Colombia’s first medal in athletics at the Olympic Games. He did it with a bronze in the 400 meter dash.

The first gold for Colombia in the Olympic Games came in Sydney 2000 with the weightlifter María Isabel Urrutia in the 69-75 kilogram category.

In Athens 2004, Colombia added its first medal in cycling with María Luisa Calle, a bronze on the track. In addition, Mabel Mosquera achieved a third place in the weights category of 53 kilograms.

Colombia returned to add three medals in Beijing 2008 thanks to the weightlifters Diego Salazar (silver in 62 kg) and Leidy Solís (silver in 69 kg), and the fighter Jackeline Renteria (bronze in 55 kg).

Colombia’s best performance in the Olympic Games in terms of medals came in London 2012 with nine. Mariana Pajón (gold in BMX), Caterine Ibargüen (silver in triple jump), Rigoberto Urán (silver in cycling), Óscar Figueroa (silver in 62 kg weights), Ubaldina Valoyes (bronze in 69 kg weights), Jackeline Renteria (bronze in fight 55 kg), Yuri Alvear (bronze in judo 70 kg), Carlos Oquendo (bronze in BMX) and Óscar Muñoz (bronze in Taekwondo 58 kg).

In Rio de Janeiro 2016, Colombia achieved three gold medals and this is its best performance in the history of jousting. Mariana Pajón (BMX), Caterine Ibargüen (triple jump) and Óscar Figueroa (weights 62 kg) took the podium for the gold medal. In addition, Yuri Alvear (judo 70 kg) and Yuberjen Martínez (boxing 49 kg) added silver, while Luis Mosquera (weights 69 kg), Ingrit Valencia (boxing 51 kg) and Carlos Ramírez (BMX) achieved bronzes.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Colombia already has four medals, three silver with Mariana Pajón (BMX), Luis Javier Mosquera (67 kilograms of weightlifting) and Anthony Zambrano (400 meters), and one bronze with Carlos Ramírez .

Colombia throughout the history of the Olympic Games has added 33 medals, of which five are gold, 12 silver and 16 bronze.
