An interior circuit sinks the Blue Jays

Once again, a mistake by the Toronto Blue Jays resulted in a loss on Friday in Detroit. This time, the error in question led to the winning indoor circuit for the Tigers, who took the honors in the first game of the series by a score of 2 to 1.

In the eighth inning, with a score of 1 to 1, center fielder Josh Palacios tried to dive for a strike from Victor Reyes, but was unsuccessful. The ball then rolled to the fence, giving Reyes plenty of time to circle the trails.

This error spoiled the performance of Blue Jays starting pitcher Steven Matz. The latter allowed only one point, on a single from Miguel Cabrera in the fourth inning, in six work engagements. He allowed four hits and struck out two hitters. The defeat, however, went to the record of reliever Tim Mayza (4-2).

In the home team’s camp, starting gunner Matt Manning was also able to slow down the attack on the only Canadian lineup in major league baseball. He allowed the only point for the Blue Jays, on a double from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., in the third round at bat. The Tigers gunner also struck out five opponents.

The two teams will play the second match in a series of three on Saturday.

Without recalling Semien

This is the second time in less than a week that a defensive error has cost Charlie Montoyo’s men the victory against the Tigers.

Sunday, in the last game of a series of three, Marcus Semien could offer a victory to his team, but his relay lacked precision, when there were already two strikeouts to record in the ninth inning. Moments later, the Tigers took advantage of the situation to tie the game before winning in the extra innings.

Elsewhere in Major League Baseball

In Miami, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Wade Miley shut out the Marlins in a 6-0 triumph of his own. Miley (11-4) completed her duel after seven innings of work, having struck out five batters.

In Baltimore, a three-run Mike Zunino homerun in the seventh inning saw the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Orioles by a score of 6-3.
