Such The XVI. Summer Paralympic Games begin in Tokyo on August 24th. Just like the Olympic Games, they have been postponed for a year because of the corona pandemic. Here you can find all the information about sports, the schedule and broadcast dates.
When and where do the Paralympics take place?
The Paralympics were originally supposed to take place from August 25 to September 6, 2020 – due to the corona pandemic, they were postponed for a year. They now start in Tokyo on August 24th and end on September 5th. Spectators are not allowed due to the increasing number of new corona infections.
When are which competitions on the schedule?
On Tuesday, August 24th, starting at 1 p.m. (CET), the opening ceremony will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. On Wednesday, the first round of the competition will take place: goalball, cycling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, swimming and table tennis. A total of 540 competitions in 22 sports are planned for around one and a half weeks. The schedule with times in Central European Time is available here. The German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) has nominated a total of 134 German athletes for 18 sports.
In which sports do competitions take place?
Medals are awarded in 22 sports, with cycling being divided into track and street – so there are actually 23 sports: 5-a-side football (blind football), badminton, boccia, archery, goalball, judo, athletics, paracanu, para rowing, paratriathlon, powerlifting , Cycling (street), cycling (track), riding, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis, shooting, swimming, sitting volleyball, taekwondo, table tennis.
Badminton and Taekwondo are new, and sailing and 7-a-side football have been canceled.

What is the Paralympic 2020 mascot?
The mascot of the Paralympics 2020 is called Someity and is a pink and white figure with big eyes and superpowers. Schoolchildren had voted on the futuristic-looking design. The name is made up of the cherry blossom variety “someiyoshino” and the English expression “so mighty” (German: so mighty).
