Alexander Zverev adorns himself with gold and becomes the first German Olympic tennis champion

German Alexander Zverev (ATP 5 / N.4) was crowned Sunday Olympic tennis champion in men’s singles. He won 6-3, 6-1 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo against Russian Karen Khachanov (ATP 25 / N.12). He becomes the first German to win the Olympic title in this discipline.

Novak Djokovic’s semi-final striker Alexander Zverev quickly made the difference by breaking 1-1 in the first set. Confidently, the 24-year-old remains impassable and easily concludes the first set 6-3.

The second round follows an identical scenario, Alexander Zverev manages to break the entry. Distraught in the face of his opponent’s overkill, Karen Khachanov conceded five games in a row before saving the honor by making 5-1. He concluded the game at the net to win in 1 hour 19 of play.

Alexander Zverev takes over from double Olympic champion Andy Murray, victorious in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016. Karen Khachanov won a very fine silver medal while Pablo Carreno Busta will be adorned with bronze following his victory Saturday against the world number one, Novak Djokovic.
