A basketball camp for future professionals

Jonas Jönke from the Dynamic Squad organized a training camp for ambitious young basketball players. There has never been anything like it in Germany. The premiere was a complete success.

A little exhausted, but overjoyed, Jonas Jönke collects his training materials. The five-day “Elite Squad Camp” has just come to an end – a training camp organized very professionally by the Dynamic Squad association for young people who play basketball and are even aiming for a professional career. “There has never been anything like it in Germany. Our premiere was a complete success ”, the organizer sums up with satisfaction. It was also the best advertisement for Düsseldorf as a basketball location.

The idea for such an elite camp had been floating around in Jönke’s head for a long time. “In the winter, we at the club put the idea into concrete terms and started planning,” explains the 37-year-old. The aim was to “offer a camp explicitly for competitive players from all over Germany, detached from club structures. We wanted to make the program and the training content as individual as possible ”. In fact, the camp was set up very professionally all round: a total of eleven qualified and experienced trainers, who work or have worked at the highest national or international level in the youth or senior sector, were on duty in the five days. In addition to A-license holder Jönke, Simon Cote, former international scout of the NBA team Denver Nuggets, as well as former second division player Gary Johnson, Münster’s old trainer Philipp Kappenstein and Kevin Magdowski, coach of the Düsseldorf 3×3 professional team, were there . There was also a mental and neuro-athletic trainer, a physiotherapist and a nutritionist. Even the food came from a star kitchen. “We had absolute expertise in all areas,” emphasizes Jönke proudly. No wonder that there was great interest in this offer: over 100 applications were received from all over Germany for the 30 participants. The players who were selected are already active in the youth and junior basketball league and are already competing in the regional league or even the Pro B in the adult segment. “We had players from the area, but also from Berlin, Munich and Ludwigsburg. In this way, actors from all over the republic were able to compete with one another, ”said Jönke.

Several units were on the program every day in the sports hall on Brinckmannstrasse. “Throwing was of course a big issue. Skill units with different moves and techniques, but also “pick and roll” and video analysis were part of it. The intensity was very high. ”It was important to Jönke that“ we gave the players lots of tips on techniques, tactics and mental strength ”. The camp’s MVP, for example, who had grown tall in early childhood and was therefore often only used under the basket in his teams, has now received the skill set that he needs for the outside positions. This actor is now much more flexible, explained Jönke. His conclusion after the camp was positive all round: “The boys were there with great passion and learned a lot. We received very good feedback from all sides. We are very happy about that. “
