“We haven’t done anything yet” and Roberto Mancini’s psychology

Peering into Roberto Mancini’s psyche is not easy. Because behind the armor of the confident man, of the man who knows what he wants, what is the goal, behind the smile he likes, behind the calm voice, there is a deep shyness. There is the embarrassment and also the pride of responsibility, not just the pompous pride of being the leader of a nation. And even though yesterday, behind the tuft, with the blue Bearzot jacket, he tried to hide it, two souls coexist in him. That of the player, who therefore knows that without all his ideas, his tactical architectures, eleven go on the pitch and not those who do not have shoes with studs. So it is about who kicks the ball into the net or who prevents others from doing it, that the spotlights are taken by them. But on the other hand he knows that his hand is also there, that Mancini is also there, in this Italy. Which reflects him a lot, just as he remembers that Sampdoria of which he was a splendid and bright son. A provincial Italy but a true Italian one. Of those polished villages, bell towers that believe they are the center of the world and do nothing to hide it. We are in the country where one by one, other than all by one, is a now full-blown philosophy, so that this Italy of musketeers, friends, embraced, without clashes and without discounts for others, is a white fly. Meanwhile Mancini says that “we haven’t done anything yet”. As if July 11 weren’t tomorrow. As if Italy weren’t in the final. As if waking up from this hangover of infinite joy, in London, or in Italy, as if removing this smile from your face was now easy. One step is missing now. Only one.
