Unseld Jr., son of a former star, appointed coach of the Wizards

Wes Unseld Jr., son of a former basketball star, was named coach of the NBA Washington Wizards team on Saturday, the team’s leadership announced. Unseld Jr. has spent the last 16 seasons in the NBA as an assistant coach, including several years with the Wizards where his now-deceased father Wes Sr. was the coach, general manager and vice -President. He succeeds Scott Brooks, left free at the end of his contract and after an elimination in the first round of the play-offs against Philadelphia. His father, Unseld Sr., who died last year, was crowned Best Player (MVP) in 1969 and helped the Wizards win the NBA title in 1978.
