During the World Cup in France (1998), the first in which Croatia played, Davor Suker said that the brilliant performance of his country – they finished third – was the result not only of the game but also of the fact that God – that of the Catholics – I went with them. Now Suker is president of the Croatian Federation but I have not heard that he has bet despite the defeat against Spain, a country with the same Catholic tradition.
