Sean McVay: Signing Todd Gurley is not something we consider

With the drop of Cam Akers for the 2021 season the Rams have a backfield vacancy. Given this, it has been speculated that Todd Gurley could return to Los Angeles, something that Sean McVay already dismissed.

At a press conference, the Rams coach indicated that at the moment he prefers that the running backs on the roster compete ownership. In addition to Gurley, who was proposed by Eric Dickerson, Adrian Peterson also rang for the organization.

I don’t think it’s something we’re exploring now, signing a veteran. Todd has been a lot of good things in los Rams. I’m thankful for the good things Todd did that helped the team succeed, “he explained according to Pro Football Talk.

At the moment, the Rams have Darrell Henderson, Xavier Jones, Raymond Calais and rookies Jake Funk and Otis Anderson. The bad news for McVay is that only Darrell Henderson has NFL carries –177 carries, 771 yards and five touchdowns in two years as a professional.

Half-closed door

McVay detailed that the first step in the search for the new headline of the Rams will test the available running backs and added that if expectations are not met, they will consider signing a running back with more travel.

To say that I wouldn’t, I don’t want to pigeonhole myself into that. We are going to use the camp as an opportunity for running back coach Thomas Brown to work with the runners, see the competition and how they handle a heavier load than anticipated, “he said.
