It would “make sense” for Dallas Cowboys hire Ben Powers from the Baltimore Ravens, and with this they would cover a “big pothole” – their inside offensive line – before the start of the 2021 NFL season, as John Owning of the Dallas Morning News recently published.
Owning suggested that Dallas trade a low draft pick in exchange for Powers, who may be left out of Baltimore’s offensive linemen roster. If that’s the case, the Cowboys can add the 24-year-old as a quality backup behind Zack Martin and Connor Williams, replacing one of the current backups, Connor McGovern, Brandon Knight, and Matt Farniok.
“While Powers would not be a starter at Dallas either, a starting job could open soon as left guard Connor Williams will become a free agent after this season,” Owning wrote. “If Williams leaves, then Powers will surely compete with McGovern for the starting job in 2022. It will probably be easier to get there than at that time than it is today with the Ravens.”

Selected in the fourth round in 2019, the former Oklahoma player has played 17 games for the Ravens. He played every game in the regular season, starting seven and helping a Lamar Jackson-led offense reach the AFC divisional game. Owning said Powers “played well” in the game in which Baltimore crushed Dallas 34-17 last December.
“Last year the guard played as a starter when Baltimore offensive line players started to get injured, and he played admirably under the circumstances.” wrote Owning . “I was particularly dazzled watching Powers play the Cowboys last year.
“Since Powers was a backup before playing Dallas, he had only started two games, I thought he was going to be a weak point on the Ravens offensive line and that the Cowboys could take advantage of that. However, that was not the case as Powers played well and helped Baltimore’s great running game trample Dallas’ weak running defense.
Powers (1.93m, 140kg) was named All-American and chosen among the best in the Big 12 conference during his tenure at Norman. Although he lacks experience, he is a “strong guard who can displace” the defenders of the other teams and “is reliable in protecting the quarterback,” according to Owning. “He performed very well during the games he started for the Ravens last year.”
Cowboys should hire defensive lineman
