The Slovenian cyclist aims to fight for his third lap after not being able to overcome the pain he suffers after the serious crash of the third stage

Slovenian
Primoz Roglic, second in the 2020 edition of the Tour de France, has abandoned the test, his Jumbo team announced this Sunday in a statement. Roglic
suffered a heavy fall in the third stage and he was relegated to around 40 minutes behind the Tour leader, also Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, after Saturday’s stage.

“I tried to concentrate on the present, to go by, but after several days I saw that this was not leading me anywhere and that it no longer made sense to continue”explained the Slovenian. “Now is the time to recover and focus on my new goals,” added Roglic. Everything points to the Slovenian cyclist
could decide to prepare the Tour of Spain.

The former ski jumper had announced earlier this year that his main
Goals for the season were the Tour de France and the Tokyo Games road event, scheduled on July 24. “I am very frustrated to have to leave the Tour, but I have to accept it as it is. I remain optimistic and look to the future, “continued Roglic, who recalled his ordeal from the fall he suffered a dozen kilometers from the finish line in Pontivy.

«I did not think that this fall would cause my abandonment. After a few days I saw that I was not making any progress in my recovery », explained the current winner of the Tour of Spain, who faced the Tour with the favorite band along with his compatriot Tadej Pogacar, winner in Paris last year.

After his fall, Roglic
kept the guy on Wednesday’s time trial in Laval, where he only gave up 44 seconds compared to Pogacar. But he paid the bill for his injuries and multiple contusions on Friday’s long stage (249 kilometers), before reaching the finish line long overdue on the first mountain stage at the Grand-Bornand.

With eight stages contested, Roglic was ranked 51st overall, about 40 minutes behind Pogacar, the new yellow jersey in this edition.
