Rob Gronkowski de los Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The tight end of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rob Gronkowski, came to training speaking like someone who aspires to play two sports simultaneously.

“I’m the backup goalie,” Gronkowski said jokingly while sporting a Tampa Bay Lightning jersey and cap.

Gronkowski and other Bucs players they supported the Lightning on his way to his second consecutive Stanley Cup.

Now, Gronkowski and the Bucs start their own path to their own double, something that didn’t happen since the New England Patriots repeated in 2004. The Bucs quarterback, Tom Brady, was the leader of that team.

In 2020, the Bucs won eight games in a row and ended up winning the Lombardi trophy. All 22 starters who played in the Super Bowl are back.

The Bucs’ social media team shared a video showing several of those starters and substitutes as they arrived at practice. Some of those players were Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs, Scotty Miller, Ryan Jensen, Lavonte David, and Devin White.

The new version of Gronkowski

Gronkowski recently said that he, and not Brady, was the first to consider joining the Bucs.

Gronkowski gave that version during the celebrity golf tournament The Match on July 6. Of course it could have been another joke on Gronkowski’s part.

“I told Tom to come to Tampa, not the other way around,” Gronkowski told TNT. during The Match tournament, via Jordan Dajaniby CBS Sports. “I told him I was going to move to Tampa, so he moved to Tampa.

And it is from there where the story does not coincide with what happened.

Brady became a free agent after the 2019 season for the first time in his career and ended up leaving the Patriots in March 2020. He signed with the Bucs on March 17, 2020.

Gronkowski was still retired from the NFL at the time, and the Patriots still retained his rights. Then rumors surfaced about a meeting with Brady in Tampa.

It happened as soon as Gronkowski announced he was back in business, and the Patriots gave up their rights to the Bucs for a fourth-round draft pick. Gronkowski believed he was going to take on a smaller role than in the past – mostly as a blocker.

Brady confirmed the chronology of events during The Match.

“Things worked out well. It was a team decision – how could I not change teams and not bring the best tight end in the history of the team with me? NFL“Brady told him. to TNT via CBS Sports. “What he has done is incredible, and he still has a lot to prove. The good thing about having him on the team is that if I throw bad passes, he saves me, like my teammate just did. I just threw a ball into the woods and my partner leaves it very close. Here I have Phil Mickelson as a partner, and I have Gronk as my best friend and teammate. That is very good for me.

Brady is fortunate to have Gronkowski back for another season, and training is beginning.
