Revealed: Bayern have to double the Goretzka salary to keep it

Leon Goretzka’s contract extension is currently high on the to-do list of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. The 26-year-old midfielder was recently associated with numerous top clubs, but would like to extend his contract in Munich on a long-term basis. For this, however, Bayern have to increase his salary properly.

Despite inquiries from Manchester, Barcelona and Madrid, Leon Goretzka has no real ambitions to leave Bayern. Even if the contract talks between the player and the club have recently stalled, the midfielder still has the firm will to sign a new contract with the German record champions. Only when it comes to salary does the two sides still seem (far) apart.

Goretzka is currently still one of the low wage earners in Munich

The 26-year-old made a free transfer from FC Schalke 04 to Bayern in the summer of 2018. As the “Sport BILD” reports, Goretzka currently earns “only” 5-6 million euros per year and is one of the low-wage earners in Munich compared to other top performers like Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer or DFB national player Leroy Sane all of them earn more than 15 million euros.

As reported by “SPORT1” reporter Florian Plettenberg in his podcast “Meine Bayern-Woche”, Goretzka would like to close the gaps among the top earners and earn more than 10 million euros in the future. In view of its performance, this would be entirely appropriate. Nevertheless, this would in fact correspond to a doubling of his current salary, which is hardly feasible for Bavaria due to the tense economic situation. Especially since further contract extensions are planned in the near future with Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman and possibly Niklas Süle.

Even if the negotiations are proving to be difficult at the moment and the interest of other clubs has increased the pressure again, an agreement is still considered possible by all parties involved. According to Plettenberg, further rounds of negotiations should follow soon.
