Antwerp does not score in gala match against Monaco

Antwerp failed to win against the French AS Monaco. 5,000 supporters at the Bosuil saw their team draw 0-0 against the third in Ligue 1 last season. Antwerp already practiced earlier in the day with a number of players, including Engels, De Pauw, De Sart and Ampomah against Sparta. That team lost 0-1. Against Monaco, Brian Priske started again with young defender Robbe Quirynen as left back. Louis Verstraete also got a basic place. At Monaco, a lot of strong holders were left on the bench. Antwerp had the best chances in the first half, but failed to score. In the second half it was AS Monaco that dictated the law, but their monopoly on the ball also failed to produce a goal.

Antwerp starts the competition on Sunday with a visit to KV Mechelen.

Standard gives up a large lead against Rennes

Despite leading 3-0 at halftime, Standard failed to win a closed-door exhibition game against Stade Rennais, sixth in Ligue 1 last season. The match should have been a gala match with supporters, but due to the flooding, the board of the Rouches decided to play the match behind closed doors at the training center out of respect.

Standard started the game with its strongest team on paper. At Rennes, European Championship goer Jérémy Doku was missing. Standard started the game strongly and scored on penalty via Joao Klauss (22.). Just before half-time, Standard shifted up a gear. In minute 41 Nicolas Raskin scored after a great volley, and in the 45th minute Klauss was allowed to cheer a second time, 3-0 at half time.

Shortly after the coffee, Al-Dakhil received his second yellow card, which meant that the Rouches had to continue with tens. In minute 68 Bourigeaud scored the connecting goal via penalty, the mistake was made by Laifis. Standard had a hard time and Abline (74.) was able to bring in the 3-2. Only in the absolute final did the French still succeed in getting the signs right via Tait (90+1.). So no victory for Standard, which has to go full steam ahead against Racing Genk on Friday in the competition.

KV Kortrijk draws in gala match against Lille

In the last practice match before the start of the competition, KV Kortrijk took on the French Lille. The team of Jonathan David (ex-AA Gent) was crowned champion of France last season. At KVK there was again no trace of wing defenders Gilles Dewaele and Kristof D’Haene. Both players are trying to recover from injury, but appear to miss the start of the season against Seraing next Saturday. Sainsbury is also out with a minor injury.

In the opening quarter we didn’t see many chances, but after a nice pass by Badamosi, Chevalier was able to score. The Frenchman from KVK let the nets vibrate with a delicious lob. Before the break there was mainly midfield play and we were unable to score any significant opportunities.

The second half started with nine French players and ten KVK players. Two Lille players were shown red at halftime because they clashed with each other. It is a friendly match and Elsner decided to take a player off the field. Very bizarre. Gueye missed a huge chance to make it 2-0 after the break. He headed the ball wide after a cross from Rougeaux. Fixelles also had a unique opportunity, but passed the ball.

In the final phase, Lille – who didn’t get anything on the mat for an entire match – got a cheap penalty kick. Substitute Yazici converted the eleven meter. KV Kortrijk is ready for the start of the season. It will play against PhD student Seraing on Saturday at 6.30 pm in the Guldenspoor Stadium. (IVDA)

KV Kortrijk: Ilic, Rougeaux, Radovanovic, Derijck, Palaversa (73′ Herrmann), Vandendriessche (63′ Fixelles), Selemani, Moreno (63′ Jonckheere), Ocansey (57′ Mujakic), Chevalier (63′ Gueye), Badamosi (went to the side at half time, as Lille was shown two red cards)

Goals: 18′ Chevalier (1-0), 85′ Yazici (pen. 1-1)

Beerschot draws, but loses Coulibaly

In his last practice match before the start of the competition, Beerschot drew 1-1 against the Dutch Eredivisie club Fortuna Sittard. At Beerschot, Frans and Radic returned to the base after an injury. Coulibaly had to leave the field early in the match injured after he took a solid kick from behind. Not much later, Baghdadi opened the score on behalf of Fortuna. At the end of a hefty duel, Joren Dom – who was once again played out in midfield – was able to pull out a draw for Beerschot with a nice shot. (KDC)

Union also wins its last exhibition game visiting Amiens

Union quickly took the lead against the French second division team Amiens. Vanzeir slipped through the home side’s defense and finished well. Halfway through the first half Lynen deepened the lead. Amiens’ response was not long in coming. Morris first saved a penalty, but a few minutes later the connecting goal fell.

After the break, Union’s first danger came. The team from Brussels scored again after a few minutes. On a pass from Vanzeir, Undav made it 1-3. On the hour, Fofana fired a bullet from 20 meters from the goal. Morris had no story. Things went from bad to worse for Union. Arokodare managed to equalize six minutes later. Fortunately, Union could count on Vanzeir to take the win after all.

Union setup: Moris, Bager (45 ‘Burgess), Nielsen, Undav (72’ Avenatti), Vanzeir (78 ‘Paolucci), Teuma (45’ Lazare), François (60 ‘Nieuwkoop), Lynen (60’ Marcq), Van der Heyden , Kandouss and Lapoussin (72 ‘Sorinola).

Goals: 5′ Vanzeir (0-1), 25′ Lynen (0-2), 36′ Diakhaby (1-2), 51′ Undav (1-3), 60′ Fofana (2-3), 66′ Arokodare (3-3), 76′ Vanzeir (3-4).

KV Mechelen beats Greek Volos

KV Mechelen has won its dress rehearsal for the new season. It defeated Greek first division team Volos 2-1. Malinwa kicked off with what could well become the starting squad for the season opener against Antwerp next week. KV took the lead after half an hour via Schoofs, who completed a great attack. It gave away that lead after Kaya lost the ball, but the same Kaya soon offered Cuypers the 2-1. Tomorrow Malinwa will practice against Westerlo, with players who did not get a chance today. (ABD)

No goals but a nice game of football from Zulte Waregem in gala match against Utrecht

Zulte Waregem concluded its preparation with a goalless draw against FC Utrecht. Essevee’s gala match was by no means a salt-free spectacle. The anniversary club seems to be ready for the start of the competition in Leuven next week.

As an opponent in the gala match at the opening of the 21st anniversary of SV Zulte Waregem, FC Utrecht had come to the Elindus Arena. With that, the Utrecht team was in their seventh exhibition game against a Belgian opponent, with victories against KV Mechelen, AA Gent, Club Brugge and Beerschot. Only Antwerp and Anderlecht took a draw against René Hake’s team.

Francky Dury already showed some things in his cards. Of the ten field players who started against Utrecht, only Pletinckx does not seem to have any certitude for the start of the competition, but Sörmo was missing an asset in the three-man defense with Ciranni and Dompé as wingbacks and the square Sissako-Hubert-Govea-Vigen behind sole striker Vossen. Top purchase Zinho Gano is keeping the bank warm for the time being. Laurens De Bock will be the new captain. Dury will not make the decision on the titular goalkeeper until next week. Yesterday Sammy Bossut and Louis Bostyn played one half each. Bossut should not really act, although Utrecht could have received a penalty after a dubious intervention by De Bock against Gyrano Kerk. Bostyn had to distinguish himself against Adrian Dalmau after a quick switch when entering the final quarter. Dury had just switched to a four-man defense at the time.

In an entertaining first half, all the danger from Waregem came from the same side and the same man: Jean-Luc Dompé was looking forward to it on the left. He only aimed wildly after a misstep in the Utrecht defense, and goalkeeper Paes had a great save when Janssen deviated a shot from Dompé. After the break, the same Paes stroke of the pendulum kept Pletinckx and Sissako from the opening goal with ultimate reflexes. The Malian Frenchman may be an unexpected addition to Dury’s team after a difficult season due to lung problems, in a midfield that already has two leaders in Hubert and the tireless Vigen to support Govea creatively.

A lot of substitutions did not benefit the cohesion at Zulte Waregem, and Bostyn had to keep Remco Balk from a goal, but Francky Dury saw what he wanted to see. The invaders also put up a fight, to the delight of the few thousand subscribers in the stands. There is music in this Zulte Waregem.
