Politics reject criticism: English international Mings accuses Interior Minister Patel of hypocrisy – sport

After the British national soccer player Tyrone Mings criticized British Interior Minister Priti Patel in the racism debate, the government has backed Patel. “She has consistently condemned racist slurs on the Internet,” said Finance Secretary Steven Barclay on Tuesday the Sky News news channel.

In addition, she herself has already been the victim of racist insults. Patel himself did not comment at first.

Mings had accused Patel of hypocrisy after she was “disgusted” with racist insults against English players after the lost European Championship final against Italy. He justified this with previous remarks by Patel, in which she had shown understanding for fans who at the stadium booed the kneeling of the players against racism and the movement “Black Lives Matter”.

Patel herself has Indian-Ugandan roots, building her political career on a reputation for taking a tough line against illegal immigration.

“You can’t stir up the fire at the beginning of the tournament by calling our anti-racism message” symbolic politics “& then pretending to be disgusted when exactly what happens against which we are fighting,” wrote the 28 year old old mings on monday evening on twitter.

After failing to score on penalties in the European Championship final against Italy, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were racially insulted on the Internet. Large sections of society, politics and football reacted with indignation and horror. (dpa)
